Things You'll Need:

  • NeilMed Sinus Rinse and Salt packets

    Stop a Cough Without Drugs

  1. Step 1

The first thing to do is to go to your nearest pharmacy and purchase a Neilmed Sinus Rinse Kit. The kit comes with a plastic bottle and about 50 salt packets.

  2. Step 2

Open the package and remove the bottle and one salt packet. Fill the bottle to the indicated line with lukewarm water. Be sure not to make it too hot or too cold. Warm to the touch is good.

  3. Step 3

At the sink, cut the salt packet with scissors and pour it into the bottle. Screw on the lid, place a finger over the hole and shake over the sink to mix the salt.

  4. Step 4

Blow your nose to remove excess mucus and then place a paper towel next to the sink. Rinse one nostril as directed and gently blow out excess. Repeat the process with the other nostril. Once finished, make sure to lean over so your head is almost upside down to drain excess fluid from your sinuses, using the paper towel to catch the liquid.

  5. Step 5

Rinse the sink and NeilMed bottle, then clean the bottle with dishwashing liquid. Use dishwashing liquid instead of dish soap to avoid adding unpleasant odors to the bottle. If you awake in the middle of the night with a cough, just rinse again to gain relief. The saltwater rinse works better than Codeine or vicodin and is completely natural.

on 4/19/2008 I am only 10 years old, and I have a terrible cough. My parents won't let me stay home from school, and when I cough I taste blood. Plus, I'm in the 4th grade! I can't ride my bike through town until I'm in 6th!
Please help me by emailing me at friendsrule2244@yahoo.com and sending me your treatment suggestions.
