How to Exercise

Many people know they need to exercise, eat better and lose weight. The problem most people have is taking that first step in order to go down the path. The thing many people don't know is when they begin to exercise, they will automatically begin to gravitate toward healthier foods, which will lead to weight loss. Exercise is a choice, and it takes many forms. What you have to do is choose a form that fits your lifestyle.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Take an inventory of your lifestyle. If you are homebound, then you'll probably want a piece of exercise equipment. A great choice is an elliptical machine. Ellipticals are great because they work your legs and your arms. Don't get a 1200 dollar elliptical machine that takes up three quarters of your basement. Instead, get the 300 dollar machine. It will suit your needs just fine.
Step2
If you are a stay-at-home parent, a great time to exercise is during your child's nap. If your children aren't great sleepers, they sometimes love having you in one spot while they play nearby. Use this opportunity to improve your health.
Step3
When you start working out, you don't want to experience pain. In fact, what you are trying to achieve is a slightly elevated heart rate for 15-20 minutes three times a week for the first few weeks. This allows your body to adjust to the change, and gives your mind time to adjust as well. Try beginning your workout on Monday, continuing on Wednesday and then Friday. Start out gradually, going for 15 minutes at a time the first week and then adding minutes as you feel comfortable in the following weeks.
Step4
Once you are into the routine of your workout, you may begin to increase resistance and time to suit your growing abilities. After a month or so, exercise will become something you crave.

Tips & Warnings

  • Hydrate your body before, during and after your workout. Use a non-carbonated sports drink and water.
  • Be sure to do a five minute warm up followed by a good stretching routine. Stretch your legs, trunk and arms.
  • Make sure to walk around after your workout until your heart rate returns to normal for a cool-down.
  • After you cool down, stretch once more.
  • Consult your doctor before beginning any exercise routine.
