1
Buy some Diatomaceous Earth (commonly called DE) from your local health food store or even on-line. Be sure it's food grade DE and not the type sold for swimming pools.
-
2
Sprinkle the DE all around your home wherever you fear fleas may be hiding out. Key areas will be your carpeting, bedding and furniture.
-
3
Allow the Diatomaceous Earth to do it's job. It can take a few days for maximum effect. The DE is all natural. It's actually parts of a fossilized hard shelled algae so it will not harm your pets or children. (it's even safe to feed!)It works as if it were shards of glass cutting into the hard bodied parts of the insects causing them to dehydrate and die. You want it to sit long enough to pierce as many hard bodies as possible. You will rid your home of other insects while you're at it.

Vacuum your home and dispose of the dirt and fleas. Re-apply as necessary to kill any fleas that may have not been hatched at the time you applied the DE. Fleas hatch in a matter of 2-5 days and become adults in approximately 2 weeks time.

Just be careful of the kind of DE you are using. DE for pools is not safe for this purpose. Also, DE creates a very fine dust that is a lung irritant; use a mask when cleaning up and don't stir up the dust unnessarily. It should be kept away from children for this reason. I can also be used on your lawn to help prevent reinfection of your pets. It will wash away when it rains so pick a couple of dry days. -

I heard of DE before and never knew exactly what it was or where to obtain it from. I read it is also good for plants when they have fungus. I have a phobia of large cockaroaches and waterbugs, will this help to deter these also? I don't see many but I flip when I do see one.
