Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
Step1
Stretch before you head out to shovel. It will stretch and warm up your muscles so they can work safely and efficiently.
Step2
Dress in warm layers because you will be cold when you start but you may work up a sweat shoveling and need to take some off later.
Step3
Use an appropriate shovel size for your size and strength. Use a smaller shovel to keep the lifting smaller and less strenuous.
Step4
Stand with your legs shoulder-width apart and don't lift too far away from your body with the shovel, it will reduce strain on your lower-back.
Step5
Bend your legs slightly at the knee and keep your back straight as you shovel. This will help you lift with your leg muscles and not pressure back muscles.
Step6
If you begin to feel any strain or burn in your legs, back or arm muscles take a break. If anything hurts, stop shoveling and continue later.
Step7
If the snowfall is heavy and consistent, you might want to consider a snow blower or calling a plow for a large driveway. However, you will still probably have to shovel any side walks or steps.

on 12/7/2007 Ekkks! I needed this yesterday. 6 inches of the white stuff here and I am still sore. Maybe this will help out going forward. Thanks.
