  • Scissors

Step1
Collect twigs from the yard. You can also use twigs from the park or even birch braches purchase from the local florist.
Step2

Step3
Cut one twig to be 10 inches long. Take a second twig and cut it to 8 inches long.Cut two final twigs to 6 inches long each.
Step4
Lay the 10-inch twig on a flat work surface. It should be running vertical.
Step5
Lay the 8-inch twig across the 10-inch twig, running horizontally. This stick should be about 4 inches down from the top of the twig. Use hot glue to hold the stick in place.
Step6
Take one of the inch twigs and glue it in across the center of the twig cross point at a diagonal. Use the hot glue to glue this twig behind the 10-inch stick.
Step7
Glue the final 6-inch twig across the center of the twigs, running in the opposite diagonal from the first 6-inch twig. This twig should be glued onto the front of the star made from twigs.
Step8
Wait for the hot glue to cool. While you are waiting, cut a piece of twine about 2 feet long.
Step9
Lay the twine out on your flat work surface. Lay the twig star tree topper on the twine.
Step10
Pull one end of the twine up around the center of the twig star tree topper. Hold it place with your thumb and use the hot glue to glue it down.
Step11
Wrap the remaining piece of twine around the center of the twig star in an X pattern. Make sure to cover all signs of glue. This will give the appearance that the twine holds your twigs together.
Step12
Cut off any excess twine and tuck the loose end into the back of the twine on the star.
Step13
Tie the twig star to the top of your Christmas tree by placing the base of the 10-inch twig in line with the main stem at the top of your Christmas tree. Tie the star to the tree using more twine or even red Christmas ribbon.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use birch branches for uniform twigs.
  • Use branches that are about 1/2-inch thick for the two longest pieces. Thinner twigs can be used for the 2 diagonal pieces.
