Massage therapy, which uses the most basic form of human communication--touch--can be used not just as an occasional stress-reliever but as a way to boost the immune system, increase circulation, and improve overall vitality.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose what kind of massage you are most interested in. There are so many different kinds of massage out there: relaxation massage, sports massage, aromatherapy massage, reflexology, and shiatsu, to name a few.

  2. Step 2

Look online or in your yellow pages to find a professional masseuse. Check out some of the massage therapy sites online (see Resources below).

  3. Step 3

The best way to use massage for overall health is to book one on a regular basis, as preventative medicine. Don't wait until you feel totally stressed out or like you are about to get sick to schedule a massage.

  4. Step 4

Try not to eat a heavy meal before your massage. Before and after, drink plenty of fluids, which will help flush out any toxins that come up during the treatment.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some health insurances cover massage, so inquire with your insurance company to see if you are covered.
  • Check with your doctor before getting massage if you have a medical condition.
