Sometimes it seems that people can jump into chatrooms and just jabber without realizing that there is common etiqette that needs to be followed. It is basically the same as it is everywhere else. Here are some basics.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Don't make fun of the funny handles or titles that people have chosen. They are real people.

  2. Step 2

You have no idea who you are talking too, despite the personality they portray. Do not take the personal information they give at face value.

  3. Step 3

Be a lurker before you chat. It sounds bad, but it is a good habit. It is similar to joining a circle of friends who have been talking and jumping in without listening first.

  4. Step 4

Keep your messages short and don't use bad language or start flaming (hostile or insulting language). Just because they can't see your face does not mean you can be so bold.

  5. Step 5

If you find the chat dull or uninteresting, just go to another. There is no need to be negative.
