How to Make Garlic Hummus

Tasty and nutritious, hummus makes an excellent dip and sandwich spread. This recipe is so easy to make, you may never buy the store-bought version again!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 16-ounce can garbanzo beans (chickpeas), liquid drained and reserved
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
  • Extra-virgin olive oil and chopped fresh parsley or chives to garnish
  • Blender
  • Rubber spatula
  1. Step 1

    Place drained garbanzo beans, tahini, lemon juice, salt, and garlic in blender. Add 2 tablespoons of reserved bean liquid. Process until smooth, adding more liquid as needed until desired consistency is reached.

  2. Step 2

    Using a rubber spatula, scrape hummus into serving bowl. If desired, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with parsley or chives.

  3. Step 3

    Wrap with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour to let flavors blend before serving.

Tips & Warnings
  • This garlic hummus makes a delicious sandwich spread in a whole-wheat pita or on a whole-grain tortilla and top with thinly sliced cucumbers and tomatoes.
  • Serve as a dip with veggies or toasted pita triangles.
  • Be sure to remove blender from base or unplug before inserting spatula into hummus.
