Any time you invest money online gambling, you could become involved in a scam. It does not matter whether you are online playing Texas Holdem poker (or other forms of online poker), blackjack, keno, slots, craps, roulette, or any other type of online gambling game – you should always be aware of the possible online scams and take all necessary precautions to avoid being scammed.

You can have a lot of fun online gambling, as long as you prevent scams from interfering with your play. By using the following steps, you can easily avoid becoming involved in online gambling scams.

From Quick Guide: Playing Roulette
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Online connection
  • Gambling website
  1. Step 1

Before you ever sign up for any online gambling sites, be sure your computer has the latest available anti-spyware and virus protection installed. It is also suggested that you have these set to do automatic updates and periodic scans on your system.

  2. Step 2

Only sign up on sites that are reputable. Stay clear of any new websites, or ones that you are not able to find information on. You can ask other online gamblers (that you know personally), check gambling or news websites, or other sources. The best advice: if you cannot find any reliable information on the gambling website, stay clear of it.

  3. Step 3

Do not disclose information that is personal by email, or reply to emails sent by online gambling websites. Some online gambling scams involve emails that are supposedly sent by reputable websites, but they are actually a scam. Any time you have to update or change your personal information, do it directly from the main site.

  4. Step 4

Do not get involved in any software applications that suggest it can assist you in playing any online gambling games. Some will state that it is possible to see other players cards, or help you win overall; however these types of programs will most likely be a scam.

  5. Step 5

Do not loan money to other online gamblers that you do not know personally. There are scammers that will start conversations with you and continue to do this for long periods of time, just to gain your trust. You may even encounter some scam artists who insist on paying you more in return.

Tips & Warnings
  • Most online gambling websites have high-tech tracking devices to catch players trying to pull a scam.
  • It is very uncommon to run into scams while gambling online.
  • You can easily avoid most scams by following the precautions given.
  • Never get involved in any type of side bet with other players.
  • Always notify the gambling websites, if you are approached by other players, or are suspicious of any of their actions.
  • If it sounds like a deal that is to good to be true – like the saying goes: “it probably is”!
