Technology has advanced so quickly that society has yet to attribute any manners or etiquette to the use of cell phones, pc, and pdas. Here are a few helpful hints for the proper use of technology in today's society.
Always use handsfree when driving. Many states have laws against the use of cellphones without handsfree. The tickets in those states can be very expensive and it is considered a moving violation with insurance points reflecting the infraction.
Step2
On airplanes, trains and other modes of public transportation. Realize that no one but you is interested in your conversation so if you have to use a cell phone in a public scenario, speak quietly, watch your language, be discreet and try to end the conversation quickly. There is plenty of time to catch up with business associates, friends or family in more suitable environments.
Step3
Never speak on your phone in a public place while on speaker phone or in pager mode. Never use your phone in movies, concerts or lectures. People pay to attend those events and did not count on your phone conversation as part of the cost of entertainment.
Step4
Be aware of your surroundings if you are walking, biking, roller blading or jogging on a cell phone. One wrong move and you could get hit by a car or run into someone yourself because you are distracted.
Tips & Warnings
Use "vibrate" mode in all public cell phone encounters
Be concise, short, sweet and to the point. The phone should be used as a tool not a leisure activity while out in the general public
Always observe local driving/phone laws and be as courteous as you would appreciate others being towards you if the situation were reversed.
