We live in a world where we exist with other creatures. It is only a matter of time before you suffer a bite or sting. No one wants to be bitten by a dog or a snake, but unfortunately it has happened. You should know what actions to take if you are bitten by one of natures creatures.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If you are stung by a bee, you should remove the stinger as soon as possible. Flush the area with cold water, or apply an ice compress. You may use calamine lotion, or an antihistamine to help with itching or swelling.

  2. Step 2

If you are bitten by a spider, fly or mosquito, you should wash the affected area with soap and water. You can take an antihistamine to control the itching. You should also apply an ice compress to the bitten area for 20 minutes to reduce swelling.

  3. Step 3

Symptoms of allergic reactions to bites and stings include numbness, breathing difficulty, hives, chest pain, fainting and rapid pulse. Emergency treatment should be immediate. If you have been stung or bitten you should let someone know. If you suffer from one of the above conditions, you may not have the ability to seek out your own health.

  4. Step 4

If you find a tick has attached itself to you, grasp the tick with tweezers and pull straight upward. You should save the culprit in a small jar of alcohol in case you develop serious symptoms. You should wash the bitten area and your hands with soap and water. You should apply peroxide or an alcohol solution to the bite site. You should watch the area for signs of infection. If the site swells, or turns red you may want to see a doctor. If you develop fever, chills, nausea, or a skin rash, you should seek immediate treatment. This could be a sign of Lyme disease.

  5. Step 5

No one wants to think about being bitten by a dog, but if you are assume that it is rabid. Wash the wound for 20 minutes to remove the animal's saliva, and call your doctor. Someone from the police or animal shelter should be contacted, as well, to catch the dog that did the naughty deed. If the bite has broken the skin, you should apply pressure to the bite after you have cleaned it and go to the hospital.

  6. Step 6

Everyone assumes that if you are bitten by a snack that you are in immediate danger. That is not always the case. All snakes are not poisonous. If you have been bitten by a snack, you should lie down immediately. The area that has been bitten should be elevated. Putting ice on a snake bite can do tissue damage, so caution anyone that wants to do that. You can apply a cool compress. A loose tourniquet should be tied above the bite area. Do not tie it too tight, or it will cut off blood circulation. You should be taken to the nearest hospital.

  7. Step 7

We are bound to cross paths with biting and stinging things, especially in the warmer months. It is good that you equip yourself with the knowledge you need about bites and stings. Above all remain calm if you, or a loved one, are stung or bitten.
