Whether you are traveling by plane, train or automobile, it is always important to be comfortable and appropriate. Traveling can be frustrating, long and stressful and the last thing you need to think about is your clothing.

From Quick Guide: Comfortable Travel
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Most important, wear comfortable sneakers! Your feet should be warm, well supported and prepared for walking. If you are flying you will need to move quickly and comfortably through the airport, but once you take your seat you can remove your shoes and have socks on.

  2. Step 2

Don't wear jeans. They are comfortable in your everyday life, but not when you are confined to one specific seat for a long period of time. Wear leggings, khaki pants, long skirts or sweatpants, something that is softer and more forgiving - but make sure you are dressed appropriately for public transportation.

  3. Step 3

Choose appropriate clothing for the type of travel you will be taking. For example:

PLANE - leggings! They are comfortable, forgiving, warm and can be dressed up once you arrive at your destination. Add nicer shoes, swap your top and add jewelry.
TRAIN - Long skirt. You can wear when it's hot and with leggings or tights when it's cold. It's cozy and still looks dressy.
AUTOMOBILE - Sweatpants. Long drives almost require sweatpants - you'll be driving, maybe sleeping, definitely cramped and sore after a few hours.

  4. Step 4

Dress in layers on top so you can add and remove pieces depending on temperature. Airplanes always start out hot and stuffy and then get really cold as you reach higher altitudes. Cars can be cozy inside, but when you stop for food or a restroom you need to add layers. Make sure you have a sleeve-length for any temperature, especially if your travels will take you to a different climate!

  5. Step 5

Wear cotton materials, it breaths better and is more comfortable to wear in any situation. Keep in mind the length of time you will be wearing your clothes when choosing the fabrics and materials.

  6. Step 6

Wear minimal, insignificant jewelry. Meaning, don't wear anything that you wouldn't want to take off or lose. At the airport you might have to take jewelry and watches off to walk through security. If you are planning to sleep, you don't want to have earrings on or anything of value on you. Minimize your chance of losing anything.
