Adobe InDesign is a desktop publishing software that allows you to give a particular character to have a special form. This is often the case when writing foreign words, fractions or symbols.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Adobe InDesign 2
  • Windows XP

How to Insert a Special Character

Step1
Open an Adobe InDesign document. Activate the TYPE tool.
Step2
Place the blinking cursor (insertion point) in the area where you want to insert the special character.
Step3
Select GLYPHS from the Type menu.
Step4
Select ENTIRE FONT or one of the custom glyph sets from the Show drop-down list. Select the font and type style from the drop-down list at the bottom of the Glyphs palette.
Step5
Increase or decrease magnification of the Glyphs palette by clicking the large and small triangular buttons at the bottom of the Glyphs window.
Step6
Scroll through the Glyphs palette to find a special character. Double-click the special character. This action will insert the special character into the document at the insertion point you selected in step 2.
