Instructions
  1. Step 1

Picnic at the Point. The site of Fort Dusquense and Fort Pitt, at the confluence of the Alleghany and Monongahela Rivers, is now a state park, with spectacular views of the rivers and downtown Pittsburgh. Enjoy a quiet picnic and then explore what remains of the historic forts.

  2. Step 2

Explore the Pittsburgh Glass Center. The Pittsburgh Glass Center offers free glass-blowing demonstrations the first Friday of every month from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. It's a great way to learn about this interesting art form.

  3. Step 3

Attend a free summer concert. Each summer, Alleghany County sponsors a whole series of free outdoor concerts. You can attend one one the steps of the Alleghany County Courthouse or at one of the area parks, including South Park Amphitheatre, Hartwood Acres, Boyce Park and North Park.

  4. Step 4

Visit the Three Rivers Art Festival. The Three Rivers Art Festival is one of the largest art fairs in the Midwest. Held at Point State Park each June, the festival features dozens of artists, live music and other performances, and a host of children's crafts and activities.

  5. Step 5

Admire the view from atop Mount Washington. Mount Washington, across the river from downtown Pittsburgh, is home to a variety of upscale restaurants. Grandview Avenue there offers one of the most dramatic views of the city.
