Adobe InDesign is a desktop publishing software. Use InDesign to design a print document you will later convert to PDF. You want to make it easy for readers to jump to a specific section in the PDF. A hyperlink text anchor will enhance the reader's navigation experience.

  • Adobe InDesign 2
  • Windows XP

How to Create a Hyperlink Destination

Step1
Open an Adobe InDesign document. Activate the TYPE TOOL in the Tools box. Highlight the destination text anchor (target location) in the document.
Step2
Click INTERACTIVE from the Window menu. Click HYPERLINKS from the sub-menu to display the Hyperlinks palette.
Step3
Click the menu arrow (upper-right corner) of the Hyperlinks palette. Select the NEW HYPERLINK DESTINATION menu option. This action will open the New Hyperlink Destination window.
Step4
The Type field defaults to TEXT ANCHOR. The Name field defaults to the destination text anchor (target location) you highlighted in step 1. Rename the destination text anchor. Click OK to close the New Hyperlink Destination window.

How to Create a Hyperlink Source

Step1
Highlight the source text (origin).
Step2
Click the menu arrow (upper-right corner) in the Hyperlinks palette. Select the NEW HYPERLINK option. This action will open the New Hyperlink window.
Step3
The Name field defaults to the source text you highlighted in step 1 of section 2. Rename the hyperlink.
Step4
Select TEXT ANCHOR from the Type field. Select the name of the text anchor you created in section 1 from the Name field.
Step5
Select INVISIBLE RECTANGLE from the Type field. Select NONE from the Highlight field. Click OK to close the New Hyperlink window.

  • Use unique and meaningful names for each destination text anchor.
