Overhand knots are simple to tie and can be very useful in securing the ends of ropes. They are also used in fishing.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Hold a section of rope, twine or string in both hands.

  2. Step 2

Form an overhand loop by crossing one end of the rope over the rest of the rope.

  3. Step 3

Bring that end up through the loop you have just formed. Pull the end and the other side of the rope to tighten the knot.

  4. Step 4

To make this knot more secure you can tie a double, triple or quadruple overhand knot. When you bring the end of the rope through the loop, instead of tightening the knot immediately bring the end of the rope around and through the loop again.
