Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Let your significant other know that you love sports and you live to watch the games, but let her know that you understand, “It’s just a game” and that she is number one. Make sure you mean it because you will have to prove it at some point because she will test you.
Step2
Overcome the first challenge. She will deliberately plan something at the same time she knows your game is coming on. Tell her you’re gonna miss your game, but you’ll gladly go. Don’t bring up the game or complain the whole time. You’d be better off not having gone with her if you complain.
Step3
Invite her to watch an important game with you. If she agrees, incorporate some of her indulgences (e.g., Chinese food ordered in, giving her a foot or shoulder massage during the game, breaking away from the game to assist her with something). Take her to a live game. Sometimes ladies who are not avid sports fans will really appreciate the ambiance of the live event.
Step4
Be patient if/when she asks simple questions about the game or sport. The more she understands about the game and it’s players, the more interest she’ll have going forward.
Step5
Let her know as far in advance as possible when you know you want to watch an important game. Remind her periodically. She’ll be less likely to plan something during the game.
Step6
If a romantic moment arises during the game, seize it! This will help to show her that she is more important than the game. Her memory of watching a game with you will bring back pleasant memories.
Step7
Change your expectations. Don’t expect her to get you a drink or some snacks while you sit there as king watching the game. Let her browse the channels while you refresh her drink and snacks.
