There have even been participants who have published their novel and received awards for their novel.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Sign up for Nanowrimo online. It begins every year in November.
Step2
Pull out or think about your idea for a novel. Write or make a mental outline of how you want to approach it.
Step3
Get started and don't look back. The challenge is 50,000 words starting midnight November 1st and ending midnight November 30th. Don't stop your writing or second-guess yourself. Keep the story going and just let it all out. There will be plenty of time for editing in the future.
Step4
Take advantage of the forums and support groups on the website. Also tell your family and friends about it so that they can cheer you on for support.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you find yourself hitting a writers block skip some time in your book and start at a new fresh place that will get you writing again.
  • Don't forget about using flashbacks and dialog to really beef up your word count
  • Write at at time where you aren't as busy, even if you have to become nocturnal
  • Avoid back aches and carpal tunnel syndrome by sitting upright at a desk with feet planted firmly on floor.
