How to Find Cheap Transportation Between East Coast Cities

The East Coast is an urban lover's paradise, with the nearest metropolitan city located within a few hours of driving. This was made even better with the event of the Chinatown bus, which overnight, mushroomed into several services, shuttling passengers between the Chinatowns in each city.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visit several websites at which you can book your ticket to either Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Washington DC, or Richmond. However, the buses are the most frequent to New York City. Between Philadelphia and New York City, the buses leave every half hour during rush hour and ever hour during the rest of the day.

  2. Step 2

Apex and Today's Bus are some of the good bus services (see resources for the services websites). Select your destination, time and date from your selected bus service. It is most advisable to book your ticket on line, especially if you are not traveling to New York City (as there is less selection).

  3. Step 3

If you are booking your ticket on line, you must print out a copy of your ticket, which you will receive in your email. This is your ticket, and it will be asked for when you board the bus.

  4. Step 4

Make sure you arrive 30-40 minutes at the depot, as the line to board the bus starts early, and you are likely to get an undesired seat or perhaps not a seat at all. Even though you have a ticket, it still operates on a first come, first serve basis. The buses do not leave from a standard bus station, but from the curbside, next to small room allotted for the ticket booth (where you can also buy the ticket if you choose not to buy on line).

  5. Step 5

The buses leave very much on time. If you have missed your bus, you can usually take the next one. However, with destinations which don't include New York City, you are likely to have a wait of at least 3 hours if not more.
