Things You'll Need:
- Roll of belt sanding paper
- Utility knife
- Flat grind stone or file
- Glue or other strong adhesive
- Pencil
- Combination square
- Clamps
-
Step 1
Wrap the paper around your belt sander leaving about a half inch of slack and mark the paper.
-
Step 2
Flip the paper over. Use the combination square mark a line at an angle. Some belts use a 32.5-degree angle so try that.
-
Step 3
Cut along the line, and cut the other end of the paper at the same angle so the pieces will match up but still leave a half inch of slack.
-
Step 4
Flip over the paper again so the sand side is up and mark a line a half inch away from the seam. Using the file or grind stone remove the sand along the line to the edge of the paper.
-
Step 5
Apply glue to area that has been sanded off and on the back side of the other end. Glue the pieces together to form a sanding belt. Maker sure the edges are lined up perfectly. Use clamps to secure the bond and let sit over night. Clamp between two flat objects.

on 3/21/2009 As a small Michigan business owner, I like to stick to the local guys for supplies when necessary. For years, I have been getting my abrasive belts, wheels and supplies from Econaway Abrasives. They have information on their website with full pricing and order forms. I believe the URL is http://www.econaway.com. They are in West Michigan, and provide a full spectrum of abrasive supplies for residential or industrial needs.
