These quick and easy Asparagus Appetizers are a delicious addition to any buffet or spread.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 10 spears fresh green asparagus
  • 1 package cream cheese, softened.
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce.
  • 1 dash hot sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 10 slices white bread
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie sheet
  • Basting brush
  1. Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Step 2

Remove the crust from your white bread, removing as little of the center as possible.

  3. Step 3

Remove the woody end from your asparagus, which is usually the first inch or so of the spear.

  4. Step 4

Using a rolling pin, flatten the bread slices. You want them to be as flat as possible to begin, as they will expand with the passage of time.

  5. Step 5

    Cut bread slices in half.

  6. Step 6

Mix your cream cheese, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce (optional) in a small bowl, being careful to incorporate all ingredients.

  7. Step 7

Using a spatula or butter knife, spread your cream cheese mixture over one side of the bread.

  8. Step 8

Lay asparagus on cheese mixture and roll. The bread will overlap itself, but that is what you want to happen.

  9. Step 9

Repeat step 5 for remaining asparagus and bread.

  10. Step 10

Cut each spear/bread roll into three or four equal pieces, depending on your preference, and arrange in rows on a cookie sheet.

  11. Step 11

Microwave the butter in a microwave safe bowl.

  12. Step 12

Using a basting brush, brush butter over the tops of each piece.

  13. Step 13

Bake your appetizers for 8 to 12 minutes, or until your bread is golden brown and your asparagus is tender.

  14. Step 14

Serve with leftover cream cheese mixture, warm or room temperature.

  15. Step 15

    Serve warm or room temperature.

Tips & Warnings
  • Serve these appetizers on a warming tray if you have one, as it will keep the filling soft and warm.
  • You can experiment with other spices to add to the filling. Cream cheese is good at absorbing other flavors, so don't be afraid to experiment.
  • Make sure you remove the woody ends of the asparagus, as it is rather stringy and will probably be hard to chew.
