This is a quick and easy way to get a child's hair to spiral curl, without losing your patience and irritating your child. I have you used this for the little girl I nanny for, and she loves it. So weather you have a special event in mind or your child just wants to try something new, this method might just work for you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A set of soft small spiral curlers
  • Wide tooth comb
  • Curl enhancing Shampoo/Conditioner
  • Curl cream
  • Curl gel spray
  • Silk Scarf
  • Cotton T-Shirt
  • 1/2" barrel curling iron
  • Hair Spray

Step1
Clairol Herbal Essences Curl Enhancing Shampoo Wash your child's hair with a curl enhancing shampoo and/or conditioner. Dry hair with an old cotton shirt to soak up moisture and prevent frizzies.
Step2
Use a wide tooth comb to get any tangles out of hair. Do not brush the hair.
Step3
Garnier Fructis Style Soft Curl Cream Work curl cream through child's hair.
Step4
Garnier Fructis style Curls and Shine Shaping Gel Spray Separate child's hair with a wide tooth comb. Divide hair into 3 to 5 sections depending on the thickness of her hair and secure with hair clips.
Step5
Conair Small Spiral Curlers Spray the first section with the curl enhancing gel, and comb it through. Then take small sections of that hair and wrap it around the soft curlers. Secure at top of the head by twisting the ends together. Repeat with rest of hair.
Step6
Wrap hair in a silk scarf to prevent it from frizzing out, and let hair air dry. I usually put the curlers in before the child goes to bed and let her sleep on it. Works great if your child can stand to sleep with the curlers in.
Step7
Aussie Instat Freeze Hairspray When dry remove the curlers, and spray each section with hairspray. Gently work your fingers through the hair to separate curls and give them a more natural look. Do not brush or comb them at this point or you will break the curl.
Step8
Chi 1/2 Use a 1/2" barrel curling iron to define curls, if needed. Add a headband or cute clip, and your child is good to go.

Tips & Warnings

  • This is a temporary perm and a lot less damaging than using a long-term perm kit.
  • If your child's hair is super fine this method may not work, or the curl may not hold.

on 6/9/2008 This is a good idea. Little ones hate sitting still and this way you can do a 'perm' and not ruin their hair.

on 12/2/2007 Yeah it still works. Just let the hair dry a bit before putting in the curlers and then leave the curlers in for around an hour before drying.

on 12/2/2007 Great advancements in the world of curl. My little one would wrestle those curlers out over night. Have you ever tried blow drying it on low? Do you think it would still work?
