How often do friends and family ask to use your computer? Adding a guest login will let you say "yes" without the worry. A guest login provides access to the basic functions of your computer but prohibits the user from changing settings or viewing your personal files.

  • computer
  • login with administrative privileges

    How To Add a Guest Login for Windows XP

  1. Step 1

    Click on the "Start" button.

  2. Step 2

    Click on "Control Panel."

  3. Step 3

    Double click on User Accounts.

  4. Step 4

    If there is a Guest account listed but it is turned off:
    a. click on the guest account icon.
    b. click on Turn on the guest account.

  5. Step 5

    If there is not a Guest account listed:
    a. Click on "Create a new account."
    b. Type the word "Guest" in the input box.
    c. Click "Next."
    d. Click the "Limited" button.
    e. Click "Create Account."

  6. Step 6

    Your guest account is now ready for use.

Tips & Warnings
  • Your personal login should require a password to prevent your guest from using your account.
