Before heading out the door with your toddler on a cold winters day it is important to make sure he is dressed properly for the weather. Dressing your toddler properly for cold weather is a great way to insure you and your family will have a pleasant day playing in the snow or merely venturing out to run errands. Nothing ruins a toddlers mood like being too cold!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • hat
  • shirt
  • pants
  • insulated underwear
  • coat
  • gloves
  • scarf

Step1
Dress your toddler is layers. In very cold climates it may be necessary to wear an insulated undershirt and pants, sweater, pants, coat, scarf, hat and gloves. As the day progresses and it begins to get warmer you can simply remove your toddlers clothing starting with the scarf and gloves until your toddler is comfortable.
Step2
Insist your toddler wear a hat. Body heat is lost through the head, so by wearing a hat your toddler will be sure to stay toasty warm.
Step3
Wear waterproof boots if the weather is wet or snowy. Toddlers will be much more pleasant in the cold weather if their feet are not soaking wet and cold.
Step4
Insist your toddler wear gloves or mittens. Cold numb fingers can ruin a toddler's day in a hurry!
Step5
If your toddler will be out in the cold for extended periods of time do not neglect the face. Applying a thin layer of petroleum jelly to your toddlers exposed skin will help prevent redness and chaffing.
