Things You'll Need:

  • hat
  • shirt
  • pants
  • insulated underwear
  • coat
  • gloves
  • scarf
  1. Step 1

Dress your toddler is layers. In very cold climates it may be necessary to wear an insulated undershirt and pants, sweater, pants, coat, scarf, hat and gloves. As the day progresses and it begins to get warmer you can simply remove your toddlers clothing starting with the scarf and gloves until your toddler is comfortable.

  2. Step 2

Insist your toddler wear a hat. Body heat is lost through the head, so by wearing a hat your toddler will be sure to stay toasty warm.

  3. Step 3

Wear waterproof boots if the weather is wet or snowy. Toddlers will be much more pleasant in the cold weather if their feet are not soaking wet and cold.

  4. Step 4

Insist your toddler wear gloves or mittens. Cold numb fingers can ruin a toddler's day in a hurry!

  5. Step 5

If your toddler will be out in the cold for extended periods of time do not neglect the face. Applying a thin layer of petroleum jelly to your toddlers exposed skin will help prevent redness and chaffing.
