Ghostwriting is a wonderful profession. You can make money doing it and you are actually being paid to write. With this new age of computers and websites, the number of jobs for ghostwriters to write for the Internet is growing every day. Here are some steps to start your way (hopefully) on a career as an online ghost writer.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Articles or written pieces you wrote
  • A blog
  • A notebook or computer file to keep track of your published URL's

Step1
You have to be seen on the Internet. Actually, it is your words that need to be seen. This means you need to put some work out there for others to read. You can do this by writing on a blog or by adding your articles to sites such as ThisIsBy.us (see Resources below), which allows anyone to publish an article for free, with no payment except possibly some AdSense earnings. Try to get an article site such as Associated Content to buy some of your pieces (see Resources below). Don’t worry, though. If Associated Content won’t pay for your work, they will still allow you to show your work for free (and you may make a little bit of money with their page views incentive programs). The idea is to get your work out there.
Step2
Keep track of your best pieces. Make a list of the URL’s along with the corresponding titles and brief summary of each work.
Step3
Get everyone you know to read your online works. You want to try to get as many page views as you can. The more you can get, the higher your ratings will be on search engines. If you can get your name or article titles showing up on those search engines, you have better chances of finding real paying jobs in the future.
Step4
Wait a couple of months, to establish your name on the Internet and to have a variety of articles or written works published. Now begin searching the online classifieds for ghostwriting jobs. Go to places like Craigs List. Sign up for writing newsletters such as The Writer Gazette and Writers Weekly (see Resources below).
Step5
Be consistent and keep checking those ads and newsletters. Once you see an ad that sounds like a job or assignment you might like, apply.
Step6
As you are applying be sure to include either full writing samples in the body of your email or as an attachment form. You should also include some of the URL’s of your best works that are already featured online.
Step7
Wait for a response and hope for the best.

Tips & Warnings

  • It takes time to build an online profile. Once you build it, you can begin looking for some ghostwriting jobs.
  • Get your friends and family to read your published online works. The more page views you have, the more professional you look.
  • You may not get the first job. But keep trying and keep building up your online profile.
