Running Water. You need running water not only for film and paper processing, but to maintain a clean environment, and for emergency rinsing and washing.

Ventilation. You need access to outside air through a window. Avoid using basements or closets unless there is a window.

Access to Waste Disposal. Check with your local area sewage regulations for guidelines on photochemical waste disposal

Chemical Storage. You need an area to safely store your chemicals in covered containers.

Step 5
Electrical. Make sure your electrical outlets are up to code, and that you have enough space to separate your wet and dry areas.

Step 6
Emergency Exits. Ideally, your darkroom will have more than one exit, in case of fire or emergency.
