It's fun and educational to build a model rocket, but you have to make sure it's stable before launch.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Balance the rocket sideways on your finger. The point where both sides balance each other is your rocket's center of gravity.

  2. Step 2

Tie a 7 foot string to the rocket at its center of gravity.

  3. Step 3

Spin the rocket in a circle while holding the string. If it's stable, it should point forward while spinning.

  4. Step 4

If the rocket is unstable, add more weight to each side until it becomes stable. This is a tedious process, but it's worth it to see your rocket fly as high as possible.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure your rocket's motor is on when you calculate its center of gravity.
