Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Love for animals
- Photography skills
- Great organizational skills
- Professional work area
Step1
Obtain a reliable and high quality digital camera. Having good equipment is an essential part of any profitable business. Instead of purchasing a cheap digital camera, invest more money into one that will not break easily or produce below average results. You will not be able to grow your customer base with unprofessional work results.
Step2
Create a business image, even if you are working out of a home studio. Separate your work area from your personal living space. Having clients travel through your non business environment will cause them to think you are not serious about what you are doing. Setting specific schedules to operate your pet photography business is a great way to prevent your personal life from interfering with your business one.
Step3
Practice as much as possible before taking the plunge. Some pets will be extremely easy to photograph, while others will be extremely challenging. Once you practice with multiple family pets, you will be better prepared with the entire photography experience. Be as patient as possible with the pet owners and their pets. This can sometimes be a time consuming task, but it will produce excellent results in the end.
Step4
Keep your work area clean and organized at all times. You will not always be able to control a pet's actions. Having necessary cleaning tools nearby will save you from a major mess later on. Always keep your work area free from unwanted odors. It will be extremely difficult to get a perfect shot with a distracted pet.
Step5
Create a workbook to display your successful photo sessions. This will let potential clients know what to expect of your work. It will also allow you to find out what the client wants. Choosing from prearranged settings and poses is much easier than depending on what you think the client would prefer. Having a specific plan in mind will eliminate any miscommunication or wasted time.
