How to Make a Colombian Arepa

Arepas are easy to make and a tasty side. Different Latino regions have different ways of making arepas. eHow will show you the easy way to make Colombian arepas.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup fine yellow or white corn meal
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp. salt or to taste
  • Non-stick cooking spray
  • Frying pan
  1. Step 1

    Spray frying pan with non-stick cooking spray and put on medium to high on the stove.

  2. Step 2
    Mixture in bowl.

    Combine corn meal, salt and water in a bowl until completely mixed together.

  3. Step 3

    Shape into a ball with your hands and then flatten like a pancake.

    Place flattened mixture into pan, cook on either side for about 5 minutes each.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cheese, preferably mozzarella or white cheese can be added either to the mixture before cooking or on top of the almost cooked arepa for extra flavor.
  • Arepas can be made into perfect circles placing a bowl upside down over the arepa and removing the overflow.
