You don't always have to visit your favorite restaurant to enjoy that specialty dessert or entree—especially when you have the secret recipe! Restaurant recipes are often a chef's secret, but it's fairly easy to replicate the specialties of the major chains and popular venues around the world. Here's how to find secret recipes from your favorite restaurant.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet connection
  • Note paper
  • List of favorite restaurants and menu items
  1. Step 1

Visit the TopSecretRecipes website (see Resources below). This is one of the largest databases of recipes from the major chains. From Applebee's Onion Petals to a Jack in the Box Oreo Cookie Shake, you'll find out how to replicate the restaurant's key menu items.

  2. Step 2

Find recipes from celebrity chefs on the website StarChefs (see Resrources below). The archives here include famous creations and specialties from world-renown chefs. Find out how to make Mario Batali's favorites, or read up on a few techniques from Bobby Flay. The site features dozens of guides and cooking tips as well.

Find gourmet restaurant recipes on CopyKat (see Resources below). You can sign up for a free membership and start collecting and rating different recipes from both famous and not-so-famous places. The Food Bites section also contains tips for cooking and preparing food.

  4. Step 4

Find recipe clones on RecipeGoldmine. Here you'll find a large database of recipes organized alphabetically by restaurant name. You can also search by specific food (see Resources below). Clone recipes are often the next best thing to the authentic version!

  5. Step 5

Track down more clone restaurant recipes on CDKitchen (see Resources below). These recipes have been developed and tested by cooks all over the country, and you can track down hundreds of chains and brands.

  6. Step 6

Read up on famous chef recipes from Bon Appetit magazine.

  7. Step 7

Visit Epicurious to track down gourmet recipes of all kinds. The special chef section features original recipes from famous chefs around the country (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings
  • Print out each recipe as you find it and start your own special scrapbook!
  • TopSecretRecipes.com does charge a small fee for some of their recipes; still, there are dozens of free recipes available on the site.
