Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Search the Internet. Do a little homework. This will go a long way in preparing for a snowboarding venture.
Step2
Watch instructional videos. These are great tools because you can watch experts without the embarrassment associated with appearing to fail in a group. At the very least, there is a comfort level about the jargon used and basic physical stance.
Step3
Join a ski club or a snowboarding club. Most major cities have more than one club of this kind. There are annual trips planned as well as meet and greets at local ski outlets. This is a great place to meet people with similar interests who can give advice on the best techniques as well as pitfalls to avoid.
Step4
Take lessons. Every ski resort will have a schedule of training events to include snowboarding. They often work in conjunction with local stores to provide rental equipment. Renting is a way to learn the techniques and deciding if this is an activity for future enjoyment without making major purchases.
Step5
Remember the dangers associated with any sport of this type. Use common sense in deciding personal limits. Don’t let the need to not look like a wimp override comfort level and safety.
