Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- 1 10 x 10 plot of land
- Organic seeds
- 1 Shovel
- Popsicle sticks
- Water
Step1
Buy seeds for beginning your garden. If you can locate a garden center that sells organic plants, then you can get a good head start. Otherwise it's recommended that you begin with organic seeds because you can't always be sure if purchased plants have been grown without pesticides. Starting with seeds may take a little longer, but the time is worth the added assurance of having a purely organic garden.
Step2
Dig small holes for your seeds. Make several rows for each type of crop, spacing them each about one inch apart. Be sure you don't make the hole too deep. If too much soil is piled on top of the seeds, then they will become overwhelmed by the cold heavy soil and the dampness can cause buds to rot before they can make their way through the surface. The depth of the soil should be about twice the size of your seeds.
Step3
Plant your seeds. Avoid dumping your seeds into one big clump. Some plants such as radishes, parsnips and peas will grow well this way. Others will struggle to get light and air if planted in this manner. They often develop long, weak stems and will end up dying because they choke each other. Rather, evenly sprinkle your seeds throughout their respective holes.
Step4
Mark what you've planted along with its location. The best way to do this is to simply write the name of each plant on a Popsicle stick and place it in the soil at the head of each row.
Step5
Water your seeds well. After a while you will begin to notice buds emerging throughout he soil and you'll have beautiful plants and crops to enjoy in your organic garden.
