Let Out a Hem Line on Slacks

You don't have to be a tailor to let the hem on a pair of slacks. It's easy to do, even for the least crafty.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A seam ripper or a pair of sharp scissors (Seam rippers can be found in the sewing department of most stores.)
  1. Step 1

    First, turn the slacks in-side-out.

  2. Step 2

Next, turn back the seam that is holding the hem. By turn back I mean pull the hem back away from the rest of the pants so that the seam is easy to see.

  3. Step 3

Take you seam ripper or scissors and begin to very carefully cut the seam. Make sure that you are only cutting the threads of the seam and not the slacks.

  4. Step 4

Do this all the way around. When you are done, steam the hem line out with an iron.
