I am very careful to pack fragile items so that they won't break in transit. This method is so simple and has always worked for me.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • packing paper or newsprint
  • a box about 6 inches bigger than the item in every direction
  • fragile item
  • packing tape

Step1
Reinforce the bottom seam of the box with more tape. All of the box seams should be sealed.
Step2
Crumple up pieces of paper and put them in the bottom of the box. You need enough to make a layer of paper on the bottom.
Step3
Place your item on its side on a sheet of paper, aligned diagonally with the paper. Roll it up into the paper, tucking in the ends as you go.
Step4
Do this with about 5-6 pieces of paper, so that you have a nice big bundle.
Set it gently in the box.
Step5
Crumple up more paper and pack it around the edges. The item in the middle should not be able to move at all within the box.
Step6
Close and tape up the box securely. Every seam should be taped.

Tips & Warnings

  • There should always be enough room around the edges of the item so that it doesn't touch any side of the box.
  • If you are packing more than one item in a box, follow steps 3 and 4 with each item, and then nestle them in the box with buffering papers on each side.
