Potty Train Twins
Potty Train Twins

Potty training can be challenging for many parents. When you need to potty train twins, it multiplies the frustration times two. Many parents of twins or more are eager to begin potty training and end the costly assembly line diaper changes two toddlers require. But teaching the basics of potty training actually happens easily when toddlers are interested in using the potty.

From Quick Guide: Learn to Potty Train
Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Understand that most children are physically and mentally ready to begin potty training between two and four years old. You may find that one child is ready while the other is not. If this hapens, just go ahead and start working with the twin who is ready. Wait for signs of readiness before you begin to potty train twins.

  2. Step 2

Get two potties to potty train twins. Now is not the time to worry about sharing. Besides, potty training twins will take twice as long using one potty. If you have your twins on the same eating and sleeping schedule, two potties just makes things easier.

  3. Step 3

Separate your twins when potty training. Twins can distract one another from the business at hand. Separating them helps them pay attention and concentrate on what they are supposed to do.

  4. Step 4

Create a bathroom routine when you potty train twins. Make sure that you go to the potty at the same time during the day every day. For examle, go when they first wake up in the morning, after naps, before bed and around 15 to 30 minutes following each meal. Consistency is the key to success when you otty train twins.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your twins don't seem interested, stop potty training for a month or so and then try again.

on 10/27/2008 MommyofTwinBoys, your boys may not be ready for otty training yet if they seem so afraid. I didn't get my twin boys completely trained until they were three. You really will know when they're ready. And when they are, it won't take long at all. Hang in there!

on 10/13/2008 My twins will be 22 months in a few days. There curious about the toilet and what we do on the toilet. However getting them to sit on the toilet freaks them out. There EXTREMELY big boys. One is almost 3 feet tall at weights about 30 lbs and the other is 2 1/2 feet tall and is about 28 lbs. Size 6 dippers will become a problem here shortly. Is there Anything any parent can tell me about how to give them the idea the toilet is fun rather then scary?

on 9/14/2008 That sounds like great advice, that I really need. My twins will be 3 in Nov and are still not potty trained. I do have two potties and do my best to seperate them as one is doing her business, but this is a challange in and of itself. Thank you!

on 8/21/2008 I think most people think you have to train them at the same time but it is much easier to do it seperately.
