How to Potty Train Twins

Potty training can be one of the most challenging apsects of early parenthood for many. With twins it can be multiplying the frustration times two. Many parents of twins or more are eager to begin potty training and end the constant diaper changes two toddlers require. Teaching the basics of potty training will take little effort when the children are interested in using the potty.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Understand that most children are physically and mentally ready to begin potty training between two and four years old. You may even have one child who is ready and another who is not. If this occurs, go ahead and begin working with the twin who is ready. Wait for signs of readiness before you begin potty training twins.
Step2
Get two potties. Now is not the time to worry about sharing. Besides, potty training twins will take twice as long using only one potty. If you have your twins on the same eating and sleeping schedule, two potties will make things easier.
Step3
Separate the twins when using the potty. Twins can distract one another from the business at hand. Separating them will help them pay attention to what they are doing.
Step4
Create a potty routine. Make sure that you go to the potty at the same time during the day. Go when they first wake up, after naps, before bed and 15 to 30 minutes following meals. Consistency is the key to success.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your twins don't seem interested, stop potty training for a month or so and then try again.
