Things You'll Need:
- Polymer modeling clay in gold (or yellow)
- Aluminum foil
- Cookie sheets
- Rolling pin
- Shot glass
- Corn starch
- Small paper clips
-
Step 1
Cover cookie sheets with aluminum foil. The number of cookie sheets you need will depend on how many gold coins you want to make. Each cookie sheet will hold about 18 gold coins.
-
Step 2
Put about a cup of corn starch in a small bowl.
-
Step 3
Remove the clay from the package and knead it until it's soft and pliable. Use the rolling pin to roll the clay out on the cookie sheets to a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
-
Step 4
Now you can start cutting out the coins. Dip the shot glass into the corn starch. Press the glass into the flattened clay to cut out a circle.
-
Step 5
Repeat the last step as many times as you can. To get the most circles cut each one as close as possible to the edge of the last one.
-
Step 6
Carefully remove all the excess clay from around your circles.
-
Step 7
Bend the inside end of a paper clip so that it is straight up (perpendicular) from the rest of the clip.
-
Step 8
Pull the other end of the paper clip out and push it up against the corner of the first end to form a triangle.
-
Step 9
Press the triangle gently into each coin just enough to make a mark on the top of the coin. Turn the triangle upside down and press it on each coin again to create a Star of David.
-
Step 10
Bake the coins for about 10 minutes in a 250 degree oven. Check the instructions that came with the clay for slight variances in brands. Some call for a temperature of 225 degrees and others say 300. Make sure the room is well ventilated. If possible turn on the fan or open a window.
-
Step 11
Let the coins cool before you remove them from the tray.
