Things You'll Need:
- Basic carpentry tools
- Protective eye goggles
- Dust mask
-
Step 1
Remove the older bath ventilation fan from the wall. Disconnect the wiring and dispose of the entire unit.
-
Step 2
Connect your fan's housing unit to your home's structure. See if you can connect the housing to a ceiling joist for extra security. You may need to install wooden braces to make sure your fan's housing can be installed completely and safely.
-
Step 3
Insert your new fan into the housing unit. Connect it by the manner specified in your fan's instruction manual. This might include screws or plastic fasteners.
-
Step 4
Connect all electrical wiring. Consult your instruction manual or ask advice from a professional to make sure you're performing this task correctly. Connecting the electrical wiring is the most complicated and potentially dangerous step in the process.
-
Step 5
Install any decorative casing or unit cover that came with your fan. While these casings might not play any functional role, they'll make your bathroom fan more attractive.
-
Step 6
Connect the fan to air ducts. These ducts will be used to funnel the moist air out of your bathroom. Exhaust ducts should harmlessly deposit the moist air outside.
-
Step 7
Test the functionality of your bathroom fan by turning it on. Listen for any unusual sounds, such as grinding or squeaking, as this can be an indication that a mistake was made during the installation process.
