Step1
Sit down with a trusted friend, bridesmaid or relative and plan out the wedding colors. Be sure to create a floral budget at this time. It's easier than you might think to go over budget on flowers and arrangements.
Step2
Find out what flowers grow best in your area. Look for flowers that bloom as close to the wedding date as possible. Grow snowdrops and crocuses if you're planning an April wedding. Pick tulips if the wedding date is in mid-April, and save lilies for a late spring wedding.
Step3
Prepare the soil so when you plant the bulbs they take in as much of the nutrients as possible. Use natural compost from your kitchen, or hit the corner coffee shop and ask if they have any leftover grinds.
Step4
Save money and grow tulips. These inexpensive flowers come in a wide variety of different colors and some special breeds too! Once they're cut, most tulips grow up to an inch a day so you'll want to wait until the last minute to put them in vases.
Step5
Bring in a splash of purple or lavender with snapdragons. Unlike some flowers, these hardy plants usually grow and blossom the first year you plant them.
Step6
Grow wildflowers and throw a colorful, country wedding. These flowers are easy to grow in most climates and they're full of vibrant colors.
Step7
Get your dose of wedding whites. Grow Narcissus flowers and use the fragrant blossoms for centerpieces. Grow Dogwood, white callas and poppies to mix in with other colorful flowers.
Step8
Buy potted flowers about one month before the wedding and plant them into the ground. This may seem like cheating, but it's the best way to ensure that you've got a backyard full of healthy looking plants.
