Your co-worker wants to set you up with his cousin, insisting that you two would be "perfect" together. You see a picture, and you're hooked--this is one blind date you want to have! Having snagged the date, you now have some preparations to make.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find out some facts about your blind date. If you are not meeting or speaking to the person beforehand, ask the matchmaker to provide you with a background of the person.

  2. Step 2

Ask for the name of the date venue ahead of time, if you're not selecting it yourself. Make sure it's a place you feel comfortable going and that it's in a part of town you're familiar with. Having this information in advance will help calm your nerves.

  3. Step 3

Plan an activity with your date. Engaging in something like miniature golf, dancing, bowling or biking will relieve tension and give you both something to focus on.

  4. Step 4

Choose an outfit that is appropriate for the date activity. You do want to look hot, but you also want to be comfortable.

  5. Step 5

Plan to arrive separately. Riding with an unfamiliar person in the car can feel uncomfortable and even unsafe. It is also unwise to let a stranger know where you live.

  6. Step 6

Prepare an exit strategy in case you don't feel an attraction or feel uneasy around your date. For example, a popular strategy is to have a friend call you during the date, allowing you to make up an excuse for leaving if you need to do so.

  7. Step 7

Prepare a list of hot topics to discuss, or decide on a few funny stories to share. Having an arsenal of conversational material can come in handy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many people think it appropriate and tasteful for a man to bring a flower or small gift, although it is not required in all situations. It may be good to think about how it will be held or where it will be kept throughout the date.
  • If you're going to bring a gift for your date, don't go overboard. Two dozen long-stemmed roses or an expensive piece of jewelry may make you come across as needy or clingy.
  • Avoid divulging any personal information, such as home address, work address or home phone number. Until you get to know your blind date, it is important to keep safe.
  • Being set up on a blind date involves a great deal of trust, not only of your date, but of the person bringing you two together. If you don't trust the matchmaker, don't agree to the date.
