How to Dress for a Hot Date

The clothes you wear certainly won't sustain a long-term relationship, but they can make a lasting impression when you're out on a hot date. When dressing for a hot date, you do want to look your best, since confidence really boosts your hot factor.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine the image that best reflects your personality. This should be one you can manage without too much trouble. For example, don't decide to go "goth" on a hot date if that's not an image you can realistically keep up on a regular basis.

  2. Step 2

Choose clothes that show off the most positive aspects of your body, such as a trim waist, toned arms or great legs. Figure-skimming fabrics like cotton jersey or silk will help you look sexy and hot, as will showing some cleavage! However, it's important to leave something to the imagination--it may seem counterintuitive, but restraint can be even hotter than flaunting everything you've got.

  3. Step 3

Obtain a color analysis to dress in the colors of clothing that most flatter you. Wearing the right colors can help you look slimmer, healthier and even younger. Get a free color makeover at Stylemakeovers (see Resources below).

  4. Step 4

Select one or two key accessories that go with your outfit. The key here is balance. You want your necktie, earrings or watch to be noticeable, but not to overpower the rest of your ensemble.

  5. Step 5

Wear a pair of shoes that are in top condition. Having shoes that are unpolished, torn or worn will not leave a good first impression. Strappy sandals, high heels and tall leather boots are all good hot-date choices for women.

  6. Step 6

Choose to dress in an outfit that is comfortable. No matter how great it looks on you, you're not going to seem hot if you're fidgeting in it all evening.

  7. Step 7

Assess your body type to find clothes that fit you the best. There are free resources, such as Personal Image Training, that offer advice on how to make the best clothing choices for your body type (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings
  • Dressing for a hot date should not cause you to break your bank account. You can always look your best regardless of your budget.
  • If you're starting to date again after a long dry spell, consider buying a new outfit. A new set of duds may give you the boost of confidence you need.
  • If you don't think of yourself as fashion-conscious, consider that black is always a classic color. If head-to-toe black looks too severe, lighten it up with whimsical jewelry or a bright necktie.
  • Coming across as someone other than who you are will not set a good tone for the first date or any future dates. Your clothes should represent your true personality.
