4. Establish another layer of colors in a separate screen of your design program for differentiation from your base layer. This layer should have lighter colors and a unique design from the base level.
5. Insert distortions, ripples and tears within the top layer of your 3-D wallpaper using advanced filter options. The swirl and blurring tools in most design suites allow you to separate one level from another in subtle ways.
6. Play around with the level of detail in your top layer of wallpaper as a way to blur parts of your background. Negative numbers for detail are ideal if you want to make parts of your base layer pop out through the top layer.
