Latina beauty pageants have become an important part of Hispanic culture over the last few years. By watching Latina beauty pageants, whether on television or in person, you are helping support organizations that offer scholarships and business opportunities to young Latina women all over the country.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Television or cable guide
  • Cable service that includes Spanish language programming
  • Pageant tickets
  1. Step 1

Check your television, satellite or cable guide for showings of Latina beauty pageants. Generally, you can watch these pageants on Spanish language television stations such as Telemundo and Univision, or through local stations in your area.

  2. Step 2

Attend a televised Latina beauty pageant in person by being a member of the live studio audience. Tickets to the pageants are often free, and are available through the television station, or through the organization that runs the pageant.

  3. Step 3

Log on to the website for Miss Latina Worldwide Pageants in order to get ticket information for the Miss Latin America, Miss Latina U.S. and Miss Teen Latina U.S. beauty pageants (see Resources below). You can get information about preliminary and local pageants in your area, and find out about media coverage so that you can watch the competitions at home or in person.

  4. Step 4

Find out about Latina beauty pageants through the corporate and academic sponsors that support the shows. Sponsors usually help advertise the pageants to increase awareness, and sometimes offer cross-promotions that link their products and services with the running of the pageant.

  5. Step 5

See if you can watch some of the peripheral activities of a Latina beauty pageant that may be open to the public. These activities include dress rehearsals, makeup and modeling workshops, preliminary competitions, interviews with judges and the media, and even the after-party.

  6. Step 6

Watch a Latina beauty pageant and note how many events have completely discontinued the swimsuit and talent competitions. These days, the pageant judges stress the personal interviews during the scoring process and concentrate on the intelligence and personality of the entrants rather than on their physical attributes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some Latina beauty pageants may offer more specialized categories for competition. For instance, some pageants may choose contestants based upon their Hispanic heritage or nationality (such as Miss Cuba or Miss Dominican Republic), or upon their age or marital status (Mrs. Latina U.S. or Miss Teen Latina).
