In the age of digital cameras and high-speed Internet connections, the threat of child pornography is more serious than ever. Predators have plenty of new, convenient and inexpensive ways to victimize children. There are plenty of ways in which the average citizen can help in the fight against child porn. One of the easiest ways to pitch in is to help support law makers fighting child pornography.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Email the offices of national lawmakers who lead the effort to combat anti-child porn legislation, and ask to be put on an email list. Voice your support for their efforts and ask for advice on how you can help.

  2. Step 2

Warn others about the growing problem of child porn and the legislative steps being taken to fight it. It can be hard for the average citizen to stay abreast of the war on child porn. You can help law makers fighting child porn by spreading word of their efforts through talk radio or Internet discussion forums.

  3. Step 3

Write letters to community groups that work with children to urge their support of anti-child porn legislation. Try to engage your local school board or day-care programs on what they can do to help.

  4. Step 4

Engage law makers on the local level. In addition to sweeping federal efforts to stop child porn, there might be task forces enacted through your local government or police departments to combat child porn locally. Support those local candidates who make child porn an issue, and do your best to promote their messages during campaign season.

  5. Step 5

Make donations to politicians fighting against child porn. While support in the voting booth is important, it's quite expensive to run campaigns these days. Consider writing a check to support candidates who you believe will do their best to counter child porn.

  6. Step 6

Keep up with changing legislation that governs child pornography. These laws are constantly being amended and improved to deal more effectively with the problems of child sex abuse in a digital age. Up-to-date information can be found from the U.S. Department of Justice or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings
  • All citizens have the right to contact their congressman or senator's offices to discuss different proposed laws. Lend your support to child porn laws by contacting your representative to lend support for proposed legislation.
