The World Mountain Trail Running Championship is the culmination of many regional events sponsored by the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) under International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) guidelines. By competing in these regional trail running competitions, which are held all over the world, you can enter the main trail running championships, which occur throughout the year.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Passport
  • Trail running gear
  • Entry fees

Step1
Decide on the type of trail running class in which you want to compete. The World Mountain Trail Running Championships have four basic classes, including Junior Female (age 16-19, 4K race), Junior Male (age 16-19, 8K race), Senior Female (over the age of 19, 8K race) and Senior Male (over the age of 19, 12K race).
Step2
Prepare to compete in the WMRA competitions by choosing appropriate trail running gear, including shoes and apparel. In addition, you will need a passport, since the events take place all over the world, under many different types of weather conditions.
Step3
Apply for membership in the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) by logging onto their website (see Resources below). WMRA events are open to IAAF members only.
Step4
Log onto the website of the WMRA to review all guidelines to enter the World Mountain Trail Running Championships (see Resources below). From the website, you can familiarize yourself with the regulations governing the WMRA, and download the application and entry forms.
Step5
Download all applications and forms to enter a Grand Prix competition of the World Mountain Trail Running Championships from the WMRA website. Once you have filled out the forms and applications, you may send them back to WMRA either by fax, mail or by filing electronically.
Step6
Wait for an invitation from WMRA to enter and compete in the World Mountain Trail Running Championships. Once accepted, you will be walked through the rest of the process by an official of the WMRA.

Tips & Warnings

  • All WMRA trail running events are monitored by the National Athletic Association's anti-doping guidelines, which means that all entrants must submit to a urine or blood test prior to competition.
