If you're all about helping people be as beautiful as they can be, a career as an esthetician or hairstylist may well be your calling. To apply to a beauty school, you'll need to learn the admission and application requirements.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Choose a specialization, unless you want to acquire a well-rounded skills set that will leave you with a general education in many areas. There are beauty schools that offer courses in cosmetics, esthetics, hair styling and skin and nail care.
Step2
Do your homework on the various beauty schools in your area. Tour the facilities, noting what kind of equipment they offer, how big the classes are and how much hands-on training students receive. Make sure the school you apply to has a good reputation in the beauty industry.
Step3
Get application packets from the schools to which you want to apply for admission. Start looking for ways to finance your education early. Look into scholarships, bursaries, tuition loans and each school's financial aid programs.
Step4
Be prepared to show your high school diploma or to have your high school forward your academic transcripts to the beauty schools. In many cases, secondary pieces of identification, such as a birth certificate or driver's license, are also required.
Step5
Read over the application materials before you begin to complete them. If you're unclear of what's being asked of you during any step of the application process, clarify it with the school before you finish your application.
Step6
Review your application before you submit it to ensure that you have completed all items correctly. Submit it in advance of the application deadline whenever possible, as this will prevent you from hastily completing it at the last minute.

Tips & Warnings

  • TradeSchools.net offers an indexed database of beauty schools across the United States (see Resources below). Use it to locate a reputable beauty school near you.
  • Make sure you find out about the credentials of the instructors. Ask how much actual experience they have, both as industry professionals and teachers.
