How to Make a Bacon Quiche

Full of milk or cream, eggs and other great ingredients, quiche can really hit the spot. A great breakfast dish to make is a bacon quiche. You'll only need a few ingredients and minimal cooking experience. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 1 pre-made pie crust (9-inch diameter)
  • 8 to 10 strips bacon (fully cooked and chopped)
  • 1 shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 medium to large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk or half and half
  • 1/4 tsp. thyme
  • Peppercorn to taste

Instructions

      Cook the bacon and chop or crumble it into smaller pieces. You may also let it cool and drain on some paper towels to absorb the oil and fat.

      Mix the eggs, milk and spices in a large bowl until they are fully incorporated.

      Place a thin layer of cheese on the bottom of the crust. Make this layer very thin, enough to cover the bottom, but no thicker than 1 or 2 thin slices of cheese.

      Pour the egg mixture over the cheese into the pie crust.

      Sprinkle the bacon onto the top of the egg mixture as one layer, spreading it evenly over the surface to cover the whole quiche with bacon.

      Sprinkle on a second layer of cheddar cheese. Make this layer as thick or thin as you want.

      Bake your quiche in the oven at 375 degrees for at least 30 minutes. Test the quiche after 30 minutes to ensure that it is fully cooked Poke a knife or toothpick into the center of the quiche. If it comes out clean, the quiche is done.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use Canadian bacon as an alternative to American bacon. Cook it thoroughly before placing it in your quiche recipe.

  • Be aware that you don't need to add any salt to the recipe. The bacon comes with plenty of salt already added during the curing process, as does the cheddar cheese.

  • There's a lot of fat and cholesterol in this quiche recipe. If you want make a quiche that has less fat, then use lean bacon and egg whites instead of whole eggs and regular bacon.
