Nothing spices up a party or a dinner like nacho dip. It's a crowd-pleasing appetizer that is actually pretty healthy for you. It's also a great item to bring to a party, where everyone will want to dip a chip.

From Quick Guide: Dips
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 8-ounce package cream cheese
  • 15-ounce can of chili without beans
  • 4-ounce can green chiles
  • 8-ounces shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • Corn tortilla chips
  • Pan
  • Chili powder (optional)
  • Jalapeños (optional)
  • Onions (optional)
  • Green peppers (optional)
  1. Step 1

Preheat your oven to 300 degrees and wash and grease a 9-by-9 pan or a similarly sized pie plate for the dip. Cleanup is easier if you use a glass dish. Let the cream cheese stand at room temperature for 30 minutes.

  2. Step 2

Spread the cream cheese on the bottom of the pan. If you like a spicier dip, mix some jalapeños or chili powder in with the cream cheese.

  3. Step 3

Begin layering the other ingredients on top of the cream cheese layer. Start with a layer of chili, followed by green chiles and shredded cheese. If you like, add a layer of chopped and sauteed onions or bell peppers between the chili and green chili layers.

  4. Step 4

Consider adding some spices to the top of the dip before putting it in the oven. A sprinkling of chili powder can complement the dip if you're a spice lover. If you prefer your dip on the mild side, fresh tomatoes can add more nutrients and bulk to your dip.

  5. Step 5

Bake the dip for 30 minutes. The cheese on the top layer should be browned and bubbly. Serve the nacho dip hot with tortilla chips.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't want to wait for an oven to heat up, you can make this dip on the stove. Mix all of the ingredients together over medium heat and be finished with the dip in about five minutes. However, adding spices to a dip prepared this way means the flavors won't meld as well as if they were in the oven.
  • If you don't have chili without beans, you can use chili with beans for this recipe. Make sure to add more spices if you choose this method so that they can soak into the beans.
  • Don't cook this nacho dip for too long or it will develop a layer of grease on the top.
  • Don't use nonfat cheese when you make this recipe, as it doesn't melt properly.
