If you enjoy sparkling wine and champagne, you may enjoy them even more when they are served from the right set. Champagne sets are quite varied, and different sets contain different numbers and types of items. Therefore, when you shop, simply keep in mind your own needs and preferences--there are no hard and fast rules as to how many glasses and carafes to own.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Shop for a set of champagne flutes. Flutes work well for sparkling wine and champagne because of their tall, narrow shape, which prevents the bubbles from escaping too rapidly. The narrow vessel also offers a superior channel to savor the bouquet and keeps the aromas from dispersing quickly, thus allowing you to enjoy your wine more fully.

  2. Step 2

Choose tulip glasses for sparkling wine and champagne. The wide bowl allows the wine to aerate thoroughly, mixing with oxygen and releasing its bouquet. Its narrower lip concentrates the bouquet at the top of the glass while you drink it and savor its aroma.

  3. Step 3

Think twice before buying coupe glasses for drinking bubbly. This vintage style of glass is the one most people associate with New Year's Eve--a medium stem with a short bowl and wide rim. It causes the bubbles to form poorly and pop quickly and the bouquet to dissipate before it can be enjoyed.

  4. Step 4

Choose crystal for an elegant look for your table. Crystal reflects light better than regular glass and has a signature ringing sound when tapped. Many people enjoy the beauty and elegance of a crystal champagne set that includes a decanter, ice bucket and glasses.

  5. Step 5

Shop for a clear glass champagne set if you prefer to analyze your wine visually. Connoisseurs like to see their wine before and during drinking to examine its color and clarity. Clear glass, versus colored glass or cut crystal, allows you to do this best.

  6. Step 6

Shop for pretty serving vessels to go with your glasses. While champagne is usually not decanted, it can be kept chilled in a gorgeous ice bucket--and some connoisseurs do actually enjoy decanting bubbly.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try to purchase extra glasses when you shop for a champagne set. Inevitably, no matter how careful you are, you'll break a glass or two over the years. Purchase extras now so you'll always have a matched set in the event that the style you've chosen is discontinued later.
