Instructions

    • 1

Get out a large, stainless-steel mixing bowl.

    • 2

Combine eggs, milk, salt, vanilla and almond extracts, baking powder and flour in the mixing bowl. Stir it all with a wire whisk until it is thoroughly mixed.

    • 3

Bring out a large, glass baking pan.

    • 4

Use tongs or a spatula to dip the bread slices into the egg mixture, one slice at a time. Soak each slice in the egg mixture for at least 30 seconds, until it is completely saturated.

    • 5

Set each soaked bread slice in the glass baking pan. Once all of the bread slices have been soaked and placed in the pan, cover the pan with plastic wrap and put it in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.

    • 6

Put the butter in a cast-iron skillet and heat it on a medium temperature until the butter is just melted.

    • 7

Bring the bread slices out of the refrigerator.

    • 8

Use a spatula to remove bread slices from the baking pan, one at a time. Place the bread slices in the skillet, two slices at a time and side by side.

    • 9

Cook the bread slices in the skillet until they are a deep, golden brown on the bottom, and then flip them to cook the other side. This works out to about 3 minutes per side.

    • 10

Remove the bread slices from the skillet and place them on a clean plate. Repeat the cooking process with the remaining bread slices. You can add more butter to the skillet if it starts to become too dry.

    • 11

Sprinkle the finished toast slices with the almonds.

    • 12

Serve the almond French toast warm with maple syrup.

Tips & Warnings

  • For extra sweetness, sprinkle a little bit of powdered sugar over your almond French toast, or top it with a dollop of whipped cream.
