Step 1
Start off by having your eyebrows professionally waxed at a salon. Stay away from those cheap manicure and pedicure "salons" you see in strip malls. It only takes one eyebrow-scarring experience to learn this lesson the hard way. A good brow wax will give you a guideline for future plucking and tweezing.
-
Step 2
Buy a brow brush with a comb. Pick a quality brush at your local department store or at the cosmetics counter. Or, you can save money and pick up an affordable brush at your local drugstore. Buy an angled brow brush for adding color and pick up a thin brush with firm bristles for brow management.
-
Step 3
Tweeze stray hairs in between waxing. Run a brush across the brow in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Tweeze or pluck any new or stray hairs to create a clean brow line. Brush hair back in place when you're done. Don't over pluck or you'll create an outdated thin brow look.
-
Step 4
Select an eyebrow color similar to your natural hair color. Choose a color that's two shades lighter than your hair color if you've got brown, red or black hair. If you've got light or platinum-blond hair, create a dramatic look by going two shades darker. When in doubt select a medium shade of brown, as it works for just about any hair color.
-
Step 5
Start in the middle of the brow and work your way to the outside. Target those areas of the brow where hair is thin or light, and fill them in using short strokes. Build color by applying several light layers.
-
Step 6
Use an eyebrow pencil to fill in any areas where more color is needed or more definition is required. Use pencil sparingly to avoid a harsh-looking upper eye line.
-
Step 7
Smudge the color to create a softer look. Use short strokes and run the angled brush from the inner brow to the outer brow.
